Rainton Away
Rainton castle was Angry's destination as the second half of the season got underway and Sherman was hoping the fearsome King Rainton wasn't going to make an appearance and spoil the day like last time Blubbs visited the ground. Angry called "Heads" and heads it was and the vistors were batting first on another hot summers day.
The random-o-meter was broken this week so Angry had to stick with last weeks lineup as new dad Vassey made his way out to the middle Angry was unlocking the cage to unleash prizefighter Winton from his six foot square cell to get the innings under-way.
Keen to carry on from last weeks performance Winton went at the Raintons bowling attack like a rabid dog with distemper as the ball flew round the park and as the score raced along Angry was quietly feeling confident with his batting order, and wringing his hands in anticipation of another changing room demolition.Kim was quickly reaching for Jacobs teddy with only thirty eight on the board when Vassey missed a straight one and hawkeye said it was knocking off stump over and as the Bubble brothers crossed paths the hut was starting to tremble.
There was only one place Bubba wanted be this week and it wasn't number three in the order, it was Zante and in the arms of his beloved Sarah. With images of Aristotle and Mrs Bubba on his mind the Blubbs number three couldn't hold his bottle and as leg stump took a battering Angry feared the worst as the Bubble made his way off the field with steam streaming from his ears.
Plattsey joined Winton in the middle and made it clear he wasn't holding back, six more, Plattsey launched one out of the atmosphere, as the ball fell back to earth the only sound echoing around the ground was Uncle Peter shouting "Bladdy hell that's Oscars car you've hit, call Auto Glass repair".
As Winton and Plattsey piled on the runs the Rainton attack started to fall apart, Winton passed another half century and Blubbs were on for another big score as the hundred partnership came up. Winton should have been back in the shed on seventy eight when a simple catch to Weaver had Angry out of his seat and sticking his gloves on, Weaver juggled the ball onto the deck and Winton breathed a sigh of relief.
Two runs later and Plattsey was back in the hut, clubbing one straight down mid-offs throat and with one forty five on the board captain Angry was making his way out to the middle to join his hero.
As the team took the bets on Angry's score the struggling Captain launched one to the boundary and Sherman was out of the running for the pot, another four and two sixes and Frankie was cleaning up the pennies from the table as Angry passed his highest score of the season.
As the overs ticked away the partnership of sixty finally came to an end when Angry holed out with the score on two hundred and five, Bungle wiped away the tears in his eyes and made his way out to join Winton in the middle to carry on the assault of the Rainton bowling attack.
As Bungles eyes streamed the young Donatello swished wildly at the Rainton attack, occasionally connecting with the ball as the score passed two fifty and Winton passed another one fifty but the question was could he cut the mustard for a second week running and go on for a second double hundred for the season?
The Rainton fielders lost the plot as Bungle took advantage of the long on fielder not being at long on, but Hendy had his revenge, and Blubbs eventually lost wicket number five when Bungle snicked one to the keeper but with two eighty one on the board and still plenty of overs to go Angry knew already he had enough runs in the bag to open the attack with Bubba.
Twelve runs later and Bupa Boy way making the return journey to the hut, also nicking one behind to the keeper and Angry was wishing he was behind the sticks for the hosts as Blubbs looked in danger of losing the batting point to the Rainton attack.
Arnie made his way out to the middle, a leg bye brought Winton on strike and, as Arnie Junior anxiously asked if his dad had scored a run, Winton continued his onslaught and the double century was in sight, finally after missing three long hops a single brought Winton his second double century in as many weeks and the fists of fury punched the air in delight, as Bubba slumped away knowing his chances of being leading runs scorer this year had vanished in the space of two weeks.
Arnie's superb innings soon came to an end, edging one into the Rainton keepers gloves for four and Winton was left to bat with nine, ten, Jack, this soon became nine and ten as Winton lobbed up a simple return catch to Harris and as Sherman walked to the middle with two deliveries to go, he knew a golden duck would send Angry up the wall. A dot ball and a leg bye and the point was safe, six runs more than the previous week and Rainton were looking at a massive three hundred and fifty five to win and Angry was left to decide whether there were enough runs to let Bungle bowl or not.
Angry decided this week he would apply the randomizer to the bowling attack and Bubba found himself running up the slope as the second over of Raintons innings got underway, Addison took to the lonely Romeo's bowling like Sherman to Strongbow pasting all six balls for boundaries and the hosts were off to a flier.Winton got the same treatment at the other end and as Addison passed fifty in five overs Angry had to take out the thinking cap and Sherman was on at the bottom end a lot sooner than he expected.
The rusty tank didn't fail to deliver Angry the goods, Harris edged one behind to Vassey the eel, as the ball squirmed from his gloves Winton was there to mop up the catch and Sherman had the breakthrough.
Addison continued his assault on Wintons pace and looked like eclipsing Mr Tans score as Angry turned to Frankie for some control from the top end, a few streaky edges had Frankie stewing and Sundance was reaching for the red card as Angry tried to pour water on the fire but the oil fired Aussie continued to burn. A straight delivery from the big man finally saw the slogging come to an end as the sticks rattled and Raintons danger man was back in the hut for seventy seven.
Hendy was next to say his farewells to the crease, a juicy pie from Sherman proved too tempting for the Rainton number four, totally missing the two miles per hour delivery and a rap on the pads saw the finger come out and Rainton stuttered on one twenty five for three.
Knox continued to put up a fight for the hosts, quickly reaching thirty two, a slower ball from Frankie had him baffled when a drive to long off fell sadly short of the mark, moments of tension followed when Frankie saw Sherman moving in to take the catch but as the ball hit the turret the clamps came out and Rainton were four down with only one forty three to show.
The Rainton collapse was now in full flight, Frankie removed Weaver from the equation, nicking one behind to Haircut, closely followed by Clark holing out to cow corner as Frankie returned the favour to Sherman with a well judged clasp on the edge.
As Shermans spell came to an end the trusty tank played one more part in the game skittling Box for eight and with seven down and still ten overs to go Rainton were nailing up the shutters as Armstrong made his way to the middle armed only with a trowel and twenty bricks in his hands.
Plattsey took over from Frankie at the top end and Winton replaced Sherman at the bottom as Rainton desperately tried to weather the Blubbs attack, Plattsey got Angry's hopes up taking care of Hill for thirty nine and the Rainton castle walls were crumbling with only two wickets left in the tank.
Harris's entrance was almost as dramatic as his exit, two balls at the crease and Winton fired one under the bat as off stump hit the deck Harris paid tribute to his mentors back in the hut and Blubbs needed one wicket for the full six.
As the clock ticked and the sun started to set only Armstrong and Binns stood between Angry and six points, a looping flan from Plattsey rattled Armstrongs pads and up went the shout, as the Smith and Wesson drew from Sundances holster Angry knew it was all over and Blubbs were going home with full points from the game.
