Sharow Away

A trip to the windy plains of Sharow awaited Angry as the season neared halfway and with nine of his crew hammered the night before the depressed captains temper was starting to bubble well before the game began. Sherman, Bungle and Bubba all arrived thirty minutes late and with no sign of Plattsey Angry was readying the plank for all the mutineers to walk as the rain started to fall. A right call from Angry had Sharow batting first on a windy, sub zero temperature day and Frankie had depressing images of bowling up the hill as Winton started the first over from the top end.

There were no fireworks from Frankie this week as the tired old codger trundled up the hill, the Sharow openers took full advantage of the situation pinging the ball to all sides of the ground and after two overs Angry had seen enough and a surprised Bubba found himself bowling early in the innings against the Sharow openers.

Bubba was right on the money, a straight ball was too much for Ainsley, trapping him leg before for ten and Sharow were one down with twenty two on the board. Wintons pace was too much for Hilton as the bronzed bowler sent down his 'makeup remover' and the batsman only managed to fend the ball to Bubba at sillly mid off and with nothing more added to the total Sharow didn't look like reaching fifty.

Two runs later and Waterfield was on his way back to the shed for one as Winton clattered the stumps all over the place and Angry thought to himself "I've seen collapses like this happen somewhere before.......but where?" as the Sharow number five made his way to the middle.

The Sharow overseas started to rebuild the innings and the total started to grow, more cuts than a Blue Cross sale at Debenhams on a Thursday night and Angry turned back to Frankie to take over from Winton at the top end. Edge after edge raced to the boundary and Angry was contemplating his next change when the Bubba picked up his second of the day as Middleton swatted one to the safe hands of Festa and Sharow were four down with eighty on the board.

More loose deliveries from Frankie and Angry was warming up the Sunbed King again, Frankie got wind of the impending change and moved to his longer run up, Ferreira couldn't cope with the extra half a mile an hour of pace, failing to get bat on ball and the sticks were over again as Sharows dreams of two hundred went by the wayside.

Angry finally decided his harsh treatment of Sherman was a bit over the top and decided he would be a good replacement for the now weary Bubba at the bottom end, three magical overs of blistering pace from Sherman conceding no runs was quickly brought to an end as Angry remembered the Friday night texts and the Rabbit Hunter took over as the confused heavy artillery watched on in disbelief as the Sharow tail end helped themselves to fifteen runs from Wintons first over.

Another six runs later and the Sharow innings started to crumble, Newstead got his marching orders when Frankie rattled his pad in front of the sticks, Mason lasted two balls and as off stump cartwheeled down the field he was on his way back to the barn for nought and Sharow started to wonder where the runs were going to come from.

More streaky edges from the bottom half of the batting order saw the hundred up and Angry started to fret about the batting point as the overs ticked by, Plattsey shelled a simple catch and Winton neared the end of his twelve. Winton finally managed to get a delivery somewhere near the target and Clements duly obliged, lobbing another simple catch to Festa and Blubbs were two wickets away from the Holy Grail batting point.

Angry introduced Plattsey late into the innings and Winton moved to the top end as Frankie finished up his spell but the stone hands of Arnie saw another catch fall to the ground, but Plattsey quickly joined in on the wickets, Wright cutting one square straight to Frankie and with nine overs to go Sharow were struggling to fend of the visitors onslaught.

Two overs later and Plattsey dealt the final blow, Campbell backing away from a looping moon ball and Sharow were all out for one thirty eight as the finger went up and the innings closed.

As Angry rolled the dice at half time he knew the double five he'd thrown was enough to see him opening up the innings with Winton and as the Blubberhouses pair made their way out to the middle to get the innings under way Mrs Monk was looking for jumpers.

Winton did his best to gift the homeside his wicket as the innings began, skying up two catches in two balls but Sharow failed to capitalise on the chances and a quick single had Angry on strike for ball number five. Campbell to Angry, bowled him, a confused Angry could only stand and stare at the stumps after being bowled off the elbow first ball and "The Spy Who Came in From The Cold" was left stranded with his boundary count on "double oh seven".

After a few attempts Winton finally hit something slow enough for the homeside to catch and he was back in the hut for ten and with only nineteen runs scored the Blubbs run chase was starting to run off the tracks.

Bubba and Plattsey hacked into the bowling attack scoring quickly from the wayward deliveries being slung down by the Sharow bowlers and at one point it looked as if Blubbs were on target for an eight wicket win, Angry desperate to do something in the second half of the game readied his pistoleers and when an appeal when up for a stumping, Plattsey was headed back to the hut, triggered by a disgruntled "Billy the Kid" Davis for thirty five.

With still sixty needed for victory Sharow decided it was time to unleash the Windmill, a hint of fortune for Bungle as the opposing fielder attempted to catch a smashed off drive in his gut and the Blubberhouses number five was left to continue his innings.

Bubba looked like bringing home the bacon with Bungle but The Windmill proved too much for Bubba, spinning him round in a whirlwind of air and padding the ball onto the stumps for forty nine, Blubbs still needing nineteen to win and Sharow were looking to put pressure on new batsman Clubber Vass

As the crowd looked on the Blubberhouses five and six pushed the ball around effortlessly picking off the runs one by one. As sledging once again headed Vassey's way, the Sharow keeper fell silent as he let through an easy four byes and with still fifteen overs to go the game was in Angrys hands as Bungle crashed consecutive boundaries to seal all six points from the fixture sending Blubbs to the dizzy heights of second in the table after Pannal failed to cash in on their tie with Bolton Abbey.

Points: Sharow 0, Blubberhouses 6

Fielding Points: Arnie, Frankie

Fact of the day: Bowl tight come off, bowl shite stay on!

Angrys words of wisdom: "Right which one of you twenty wasn't drunk last night?"
