Ripley Away
Another week, another game, another toss lost and another bungled match report. Blubbs were put into bat on a warm but gloomy day.
With Sherman still passed out in a gutter in Ibiza, Stella in one hand, kebab in the other, Stonewall, Angry and Piewalker returned to replace Window Licker, Uncle Peter and Senior Hogg as Blubbs aimed to break the poor run away at Ripley.
Things started poorly, Stonewall edging one to the awaiting boot of Hind. Angry appeared at 3, but soon lost opener Bubba as he chipped a simple catch to mid off. Bupa and Angry steadied the ship and were looking comfortable before Bupa edged to slip for a well earned 20 to make the score 52-3.
Angry soon fell for 24, lobbing a catch to mid off and so brought Arnie and Gobby to the crease. Gobby soon departed, skying one to Square leg. This brought Bungle to the crease. Four deliveries brought Bungle's duck tally to 5 as a leading edge fell to hand at cover. McFly Hogg lasted 2 balls, missing a straight delivery. At 63 for 7 things were looking grim
Pie walker hung about whilst Arnie swished the bat at anything and everything. However a clip off the legs should have brought the pastry maestro an easy 2, but whilst thinking about the top shelf Weegmans special, failed to ground his bat and was run out.
Chef was next in and next out. With Arnie peppering the 3rd man boundary, Chef tried to copy but only succeeded in scooping a bread and butter pudding catch to mid-wicket. Hebb came in and Arnie continued trying to attack, guns blazing, before Hebb guided one to slip, blubbs 89 all out, Arnie 30no and extras scoring nearly 3 times as many as 8 of the batsmen combined.
Victory was still possible, and after a loosener opening over from Chef, Bubba raced in. Unfortunately the good balls were too good and the bad deliveries were dispatched with ease by Hind. Runs came quickly, so Stonewall turned to himself and Gobby.
An attempted quick single to Bubba at mid on saw Baranyai running off the pitch believing the direct hit had got him but the umpire said not out. Replays suggested the batsman may have been airborne in an attempt to clear Bubba's trailing bottom lip as the bails were sent flying. With news of Splinter's likely retirement, Stonewall turned to the spin of Bungle to try break the partnership.
Hind hit a Bungle long hop for 4 to finish the game and leave the helium based overseas on 67no and Blubbs staring back at what can only be described as a humiliation.
With 2 games to go, some pride, some team work and more importantly, some runs, need to be restored to finish the season the way it began. And with Sherman back, he can take back the reigns of match reporter.
