Rainton Home
Another home game and more problems for Stonewall as Rainton visited the A59 Oval on another miserable day which promised another soft wet track with conditions favouring the side fielding first.
Rainton of course won the toss and Stonewall stole Shermans twenty pence after "borrowing" it for the toss and Blubbs were batting with a sparse looking line up in the hut, Angry, Arnie, Splinter all missing from the team left Stonewall putting Sherman up the order to four this week and Rainton were chomping at the bit already.
Stonewall opened up the batting with new partner Bupa Boy Keighley who'd been drafted in from the two's as their game had been called after Bilton couldn't raise a team, Bupa was feeling relaxed in the knowledge his team had secured six vital points this week and confidently strode out to get the days play under way.
Things didn't get off to a good start, Stonewall called for a single and Bupa refused to move, Stonewall lost his footing trying to make his ground and found himself run out by three yards and Blubb had lost their first wicket with only six on the board.
Bubba joined Bupa but not for long, one run later Blubbs were two down and Sherman was pushed back into the shed as Stonewall ordered Hebb out to the middle to try and steady the ship, he did but not for long, the score had reached twenty two and a thud on pads saw the finger go up and Hebb had his marching orders back to the hut.
Stonewall had no option now but to wheel out the tank and Sherman took to the centre with Bupa still battling away at the other end, another eight runs added all by Bupa saw the score reach thirty, it also saw Sherman pick up another duck for the season when he nicked one straight into the keepers hands and Blubbs didn't look like making it to fifty.
The middle order collapse was now in full flow and Bungle could do little to stop it, another nick to keeper finished his innings for the day and Blubbs were a miserable thirty six for five and an early shower was on the cards.
Another new face for the season saw Hoggy batting at seven joining his second team skipper out in the middle, ten more were added before the next wicket tumbled and Bupa boy was heading back to the shed caught for a courageous twenty.
Hoggy was joined by brother Charlie "McFly" Hogg, another recruit from the seconds, the swash buckling boy band look-a-like let fly from the word go and Stonewall knew things weren't looking good, Sherman and Hebb could watch no more and went off in search of gas for the boiler.
Hoggy was next to fall, caught for nine and Swing made his way out to the middle forty seven for seven was soon sixty nine for eight and the end was nigh, two runs later it was seventy one for nine with Window Licker and Little Chef Blubbs only hope of a point for the batting.
A rare six from Window Licker pushed the score up towards the ninety mark but when he tried for a second one he only managed to sky the ball straight to a fielder and the Blubberhouses innings had come to an end with a total of only eighty eight on the board and Stonewall knew victory was a long optimistic way off.
Swing took the new ball this week with backup from Sherman as usual, Stonewall obviously not happy with the start and replaced Sherman with Bubba after only three overs, it did the trick though and Bubba picked up the scalp of Weaver with the score on twenty seven when a thin edge went straight into the gloves of Hebb and Blubbs had made sure a ten wicket stuffing was now out of the question.
Rainton continued to score at a steady rate and all was looking lost for another week, Stonewall restored some hope when Know was given out leg before with Rainton still needing forty five for victory.
Bubba struck again next over with a snappy caught and bowled and Rainton had lost three wickets for forty seven, but Rainton still held all the cards and still looked like taking all six points from the game.
Bubba should have picked up wicket number four moments later when Hendy skied one towards the river Bungle bound, Bungle lived up to his name bungling the catch and Stonewall was fuming as Rainton nicked another single and another step closer to victory.
Bungle got a lucky reprieve two overs later when Hendy decided to waltz down the wicket, he missed the ball but Hebb didn't, whipping off the bails and it was fifty for four, could the miracle happen?
Bubba picked up his forth wicket two runs later and Bungle managed to cling onto a catch in the deep, Rainton wobbling on fifty two for four still thirty seven short of victor.
Rainton pushed the score on, Sherman on then off, Hoggy took over from Stonewall and a cameo appearance from Little Chef but it was all to no avail, the score finally finishing on ninety for five and Blubbs tasted defeat once again, more missing next week leaves Stonewall with real problems for the game away to Knaresborough Forest.
