Darley Home
And now the end is near and so Stonewall faces the final curtain, Darley at home. The finale to the 2007 season and what a season it's been, Blubbs still in with chance to reach the premiership of the Nidderdale League for the first time ever in it's history.
Stonewall's good fortune continued and on winning the toss he gave Blubb's the task of bowling out Darley if six points was to be gained from the game.
Mad Frankie accompanied by Sherman got the final game's proceeding's underway and Darley got off to a good start reaching forty before Sherman hit the target bowling Hainsworth for eighteen.
Gill was the new man at the crease but didn't hang around, a failed sweep across the line right in front of the sticks saw Sherman pick up number two and Blubb's were on top at forty for two.
Mad Frankie got number three when Rice dollied one up to Splinter who made no mistake snapping it up.
Darley fronted a fight back for the fourth wicket, Stonewall took over from Mad Frankie to try break up the partnership. Chances came and chances went Mad Frankie the main culprit spilling a seasons best of seven catches including a couple he palmed over for sixes.
Stonewall grew angrier as the ball seemed to follow Frankie round the field and with each mis-field being worse than the last the homeside's heads were dropping.
Splinter finally picked up the wicket of Bird for fifty seven when a straight drive went straight up and straight to Tichie who finally proved to the spectators that someone in the team could catch a ball.
Sherman finished off his last spell of the season and made way for Slimer who finally broke Brockhill who went leg before for thirty seven giving Blubb's a glimmer of hope for the ten wicket haul.
Four runs later and Milne became Splinter's second scalp of the day playing back a simple catch which Splinter had no trouble snapping up and Darley were one thirty five for six.
Patterson was next to go when Splinter hit the stick's and picked up his third wicket of the day with only one more run being added to the total.
Furniss and Bradley piled on the pressure and again Blubb's were finding it hard to break up a partnership. Stonewall finally turned to Tichie who immediately did the damage getting Bradley caught behind after nicking one into Hebb's mitts.
With only four over's remaining and two wickets required Craigie stepped up a gear and Mr Angry finally got his hands to a catch to remove Garnham from the equation giving Blubb's twelve deliveries to get one wicket.
It only took six before Tichie finally cleaned up the tail securing the bowling point but Blubb's were looking at a hefty two hundred and ten for victory.
It was business as usual for the batting order with Stonewall and Angry fronting the run chase but disaster struck early on when Angry carved a simple catch to gully and it was twenty five for one.
Slimer took to the field for possibly his last innings ever at the BCG not wasting time he made a quick fire forty before fishing outside off stump found him nicking one into the keepers gloves and panic set in.
Seventy nine for two and Blubb's two main run scorers were back in the shed, another one hundred and thirty one runs looked a long way off.
Tichie went up the order at four much to Arnie's annoyance but with Stonewall on form they steadied the ship, keeping the board ticking over and Blubb's still in with a shout.
Stonewall was definitely not his usual self and pounded the ball to all ends of the ground, reaching fifty without anyone noticing.
After a match winning one hundred and nineteen partnership Darley finally picked up the wicket of Tichie for thirty two which meant Wilkie was on his way out to the centre to join Stonewall.
Stonewall was next to go taking a big swing at one on the stumps after being told he was nine short of a century with only eleven more needed for victory.
Arnie got chance to see out the season hitting the winning runs unfortunately once again he fell foul to spin when Rice tossed up the mortar ball, Arnie equipped with with his new willow found the middle alright except it was the middle of the toe end of his bat and a straight forward catch to mid-wicket saw Blubb's stumble at two hundred and one for five.
Mad Frankie joined Wilkie and they finally secured the win and maximum points for Blubb's meaning Stonewall had to worriedly wait wondering how the other top teams had got on.
Joy turned to sadness for Stonewall when results were finally revealed, Bolton Abbey took six from Helperby going up champions leaving Helperby level with Blubbs on eighty four points.
After much deliberation Helperby were declared second in the table because Popeye had eaten more spinach than anyone else and Helperby had a better runs per wicket average than Blubb's by a marginal 0.009.
Another season over, well done to champions Bolton Abbey and good riddance to Helperby unfortunately I'm sure we'll be seeing them again in the 2009 season.
This is Sherman's Shack saying over and out for 2007.

Fact of the day: Drinking too much ale can affect the body in many ways, if you drink enough of it it can even make you sick. After Saturdays final game Blubb's scored a hat-trick when Wilkie, Harry and Slimer all regurgitated the contents of their stomachs on the streets and gardens of Yorkshire after celebrating a bit too much.......God bless alcohol and all who sail in her.
