With Laves back down under, the bunker in disarray, Uncle Peter made himself available for selection to help fill the void left by players going to watch sub-standard cricket at headingley. Hebb also replaced Butch and Blubbs looked to stop the run of poor form.
Sherman won the toss and Blubbs were batting. The innings got off to a quick start, Winton hitting a head high full toss for 6 over point. A leading edge to mid on saw Winton back in the hut for 17 and Bubba joining Angry at the crease. Some poor sledging ensued, as a timed leg glance for 4 by Bubba was deemed not a proper shot by the forest keeper, and not long after he was replaced due to a damaged shoulder and bruised ego.
The pair steadily pushed the score towards a hundred before Angry was surprised by the straight one from Ainsley and was in the hut for 25. Gobby strode out to the crease, looking to cement a top order place. He and Bubba added the runs, regularly switching the strike whilst hitting the bad balls. Bubba passed 50 and looked set for a big score. The partnership ended at 95 when Forest handed the ball to Jubb. A slow longhop to Bubba should have disappeared into the carpark, but instead the shrimper picked out the only man out on the legsidefor 84, the score 178-3. Arnie walked out and Gobby edged closer to his maiden 1st team 50 before a moment of running madness that Frankie would be proud of ended his innings on 46. A leg glance off Walker went to short fine leg and the studley junior cried yes, no, oh no as a silent Arnie stood in amazement.
With less than 4 overs to go, Bungle walked out looking to push the score towards 220. After a few misses from Arnie, a single left Bungle to hit Jubb over midwicket for 6. A couple 4s from the penultimate over took the score to 218 with 1 over left. Bungle was out caught for 18, hitting a full toss straight to deep midwicket. Arnie hit a 6 and a single to leave Titchie 3 balls. 2 deliveries later, he was out bowled leaving Frankie 1 ball to make an impact. An impact it was, missing a straight one and being bowled giving Jubb his 4th wicket and blubbs ending on 225-7.
The tea interval set the tone for the 2nd half, Hebb running around trying to collect match fees, Bubba running around trying to sort the ground after being reminded of his half time ground duties, and Sherman running around trying to get all the players into the changing room for a Clippy presentation. After Winton received his hat-trick trophy, the players walked out onto the field set to seal 6 points.
Sherman bravely handed Frankie the new ball, and the veteran Aussie rolled back the years, as Jubb was out caught by Bungle only a couple deliveries in. 1 became 2 in 2 as Horsman played round a straight one. With the field in, Clippy closed his eyes and the Forest Captain faced the hat-trick ball. As Gobby dived for the catch, the finger went up for bat pad and Clippy was in despair. As forest reeled, Frankie made the score 9-4, cleaning up Skaith for 5.
Walker helped himself to some 4s off Winton before Frankie got victim number 5, Ainsley not realising he was out of his ground as Hebb claimed the stumping. Winton eventually got his man, bowling Walker for 28 and Forest 45-6. Robson was in and out straight away, bowled 1st ball and Clippy was worried again. Hat-trick ball, and there was a huge cheer from the crowd - by Clippy - as an inside edge onto pad saved him some money. Not to be undone, Winton had 2 in 2 the following over, Pyke Snr bowled and Furniss plumb LBW, but once again the cheer came from Clippy as another inside edge onto pad thwarted Winton.
At 49-9, the game was all but over. However Bradd and Taylor decided to have some fun. As Winton was being hit for 4s, Bubba replaced Frankie but couldn't get the breakthrough. Winton turned to bowling his spin, which was welcomed by Bradd, hitting 20 off some poor deliveries. Winton pleaded with Sherman to keep him on, and eventually Winton bought the last wicket, and his 5th, Bradd spooning a catch to the awaiting hands of Frankie, forest finishing on 122 all out, and blubbs with 6 points in the bag.
Points: Blubberhouses 6 Knaresborough Forest 0
Fielding Points: Gobby, Hebb
Fact of the day: Fielding proved to be so much easier once field placings were decided solely by the captain. The only downside is pleading with the captain to give you another over even though you've bowled a load of tripe is also easier.
