Sharow Home

Second place Sharow were Blubb's opponents for week eight of the season and it had been another typical wet week and the new track had been ditched in favour of the pudding used at the start of the season. Sherman won the toss and decided to stick the visitors in, hoping the warm sunshine would make the track better for batting on in the second half.

Hebb out due to injury meant no keeper for Blubbs this week and a heated discussion between Sherman and Angry soon had the 'bubble-o-meter' rising with Bungle finally putting on the gauntlets and going behind the sticks as Winton and Gobby opened up the Blubberhouses attack.

A quick fire start from the visitors saw Mason blasting twenty two in no time before Winton clattered the stumps and Sharow were twenty five for one, Ainsley "Boycott" yet to trouble the scorers and dangerman Monk was at the crease.

It should have been twenty five for two when Monk skied his first ball to backward square but Dicko had too much time to think, running round like a captive polar bear within the constraints of its pen, the ball finally dropping between his legs and Monk was off the mark.

Sharow continued to pile on the pressure, runs coming easily for Monk with Ainsley holding up the other end, Winton stepped down to let the semi-conscisous Laves take over from the river end but still the Sharow number two and three held up their guard.

Sherman replaced Gobby after his six from the Woodyard end and almost got the breakthrough when Monk nicked one behind to Bungle, it was too quick for Bungle and the catch went to ground and so did Shermans head, two chances gone and the Sharow run machine was still at the crease.

Laves finished his seven and Winton was back into the attack, not for long as three overs passed and still no breakthrough for the homeside.

Sherman turned to Mad Frankie, the despondent "wanna be" Aussie eventually agreed to bowl but still no wickets came as the visitors pushed on past the hundred mark with still nine wickets in the hut.

Gobby returned back at the Woodyard end after Sherman failed to deliver with his nine over spell, Mad Frankie eventually conceded and Winton was back into the attack with twelve overs to go.

The breakthrough finally came one hundred and fifty four runs after wicket number one when Winton skittled Ainsley for forty five but Sharow still held all the cards.

Two more runs later and Winton bagged number three, Hilton caught for two but Blubbs still could get rid of Monk was now well passed his century and still not finished.

It was certainly Wintons day, picking up Webster, Bain and Ainsley all in quick succession as Sharow had a late innings collapse but the visitors had posted a healthy two hundred and forty two for six from their forty five overs but according to Angry it was "an average score for this ground" and Blubbs were looking at just over five an over for victory.

Winton and Angry commenced the Blubbs innings and the Winton the off white opener should have been on his way back to the hut the very first ball as a mis-timed pull went straight up in the air to gully but a mis-judgement from the fielder saw the ball spill to the ground and Winton was off the mark.

Disaster struck only moments later when Angry edged a simple catch behind and Blubbs were one for one in the first over.

One for one soon slumped to eight for two when Winton was triggered leg before and two hundred and forty two was looking a very long way away.

Things got worse, the score on thirteen and Arnies day suddenly got worse, caught for nought quickly followed by Bupa Boy who couldn't keep the ball down as short leg snapped up the catch and Blubb were in deep trouble.

Bubba and Bungle tried to resist the Sharow attack and pushed the score on to thirty one but a lapse in concentration from Bubba saw his innings come to an end when he failed to ground his foot behind the line, stumped for fifteen and with five down it was time to start the car.

The wickets continued to tumble, as Laves, Bungle, Gobby and Frankie all came and went and at fifty four for nine with only Tichie and Sherman left to bat the home team knew the writing was on the wall.

The innings finally came to an end on sixty five when Sherman was trapped leg before and Sharow had taken all six points and Sherman was left wondering if Blubbs would ever win another game this season. A voyage to top of the table Helperby next week leaves Sherman a lot to think about before Saturday.

Points: Blubberhouses 0, Sharow 6

Feilding Points: Bubba (x2)

Fact of the Day:  Even if Sharow had scored half an "average" score at Blubberhouses this week, Blubberhouses would still have come second!
