Pateley Bridge Home

Pateley Bridge were the visitors to Brennan Bank on a red hot summer day. The sun was out, the wicket appeared dry and the captain won the toss. Unfazed by having to decide what to do, Sherman elected to bat. Angry and Tantastic strode to the crease, and the Showpony went on the attack, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground. Not to be outshone, Angry scored at the same rate and blubbs were going at 10 an over. Macca soon went for 35, late cutting a ball onto off stump. Bubba walked out to bat and 23 runs later blubbs were 92-2 and Bubba was on his way back, caught in the covers for 9.

Angry and Arnie put together a decent partnership as Angry passed 50. Angry departed with the score on 153, spooning a catch to long on and was back in the hut for 73. Laves was next in, and went on the attack from the off, smashing his 2nd ball over cow for 6. A speedy partnership took the score to 210 before Arnie missed a straight one, and as bowled for 44. Bungle strode to the wicket and hit a quick 18 before an attempted heave ho failed and Frankie was next in. A few swings and misses later, the finger went up and Frankie was LBW for 1. Four and out for Gobby, and Blubbs were 241-7. Sherman and Laves saw out the last few deliveries and Blubbs finished with 244-7, 40 short of ideal.

Some tight bowling from Dale Winton and Laves kept the run rate down. Laves got the breakthrough on 7, bowling Light off an inside edge for 1. Sherman turned to Gobby who claimed the wicket of Langley for 7. At 24-2, Blubbs were on top. But Simpson had other ideas. No matter where Gobby bowled, the ball disappeared to the boundary. Meanwhile, Laves was having little success. A momment of controversy followed. Laves bowled wide of off-stump, Chadwick drove and Angry took the catch at slip. The Angry-O-Meter was boiling as not out was the call. The batsman hit the ground, but what made the ball travel to slip? After 32 was scored off a Gobby Bobby over, Sherman unleashed the tank himself. Winton replaced Laves, but was unable to make the breakthrough as Chadwick helped himself to a few fours. Mad Frankie was brought in to stem the run flow, but Simpson helped himself to 4 sixes. Sherman turned to Bubba but Simpson hit him further, 29 coming off the over.

Macca returned with some spin in an attempt to get a wicket. After a quiet, but unsuccessful over, it was Bubbas turn again. However the lip was out and Bubba had taken himself out of the attack so Sherman came back on. After 29 overs, Pateley required just 14 to win. Laves came back on and by the end of the over, Pateley needed only 1 to win. This brought the games 2nd controversial moment. Macca bowled to Simpson who swept, missed and was bowled. The umpire called dead ball as he deemed Simpson to be not ready when the ball was bowled. Simpson got the winning run, and Pateley had won by 8 wickets, 15 overs to spare. Simpson 155 not out.

A decent performance with the bat, but a disappointing result. Next week is Sharow. News of Hebb out injured leaves the 1st without a keeper.

Fact of the day 1: Don't leave match reports until the friday after the game. Not only does key memories from the game disappear, but also all funny ideas disappear too. See this as a disclaimer, so don't winge about a rubbish report.

Fact of the day 2: Law 23.3(b) part (v). Not a common law so its an easy mistake to make.
