A trip to "Leonard" was the order of the day as Blubbs entered round nine of the season and with only four points between the two clubs Angry was keen for another victory. Losing the toss Angry and the team took to the field together after Burton decided they wanted to bat for the first half of the game.

Leonard set off in a frenzy, smashing the Blubbs openers to all corners of the park as the score raced to fifty from the first five overs and Sherman knew it was going to be a long afternoon as Thirkell edged another boundary towards the bowling green.

Six overs gone and sixty five on the board, Thirkell gifted Bubba with an easy catch at gulley, Bubba was half asleep wondering if he'd score any runs this week and the catch went to ground as the slogging continued.

Leonard passed the hundred mark inside fifteen overs and Angry decided to take Winton out of the attack and as Sherman was marking out his run up the tanned paceman sulked off to long-on with a face like a bulldog licking piss of a nettle.

Plattsey took over at the Scoreboard End but Blubbs were still leaking runs liked a cracked toilet after a night on the Guiness and Angry called upon Hoff to take over from Sherman at the Pavilion End.

Hoff finally got the breakthrough as Eustace flayed wildly at a straight one and with twenty four overs played the hosts were looking to bat Blubbs out of the game with one hundred and sixty eight on the board.

Winton replaced Hoff as Angry tried in desperation to pick up wickets, Winton trapped Wray in front of the sticks for eight but Crompton got to the middle and continued the onslaught.

Angry put Sherman on at the Scoreboard End as Leonard passed two hundred and Gobby got a go at the other end as the runs piled up, Thirkell passed one fifty and the hosts looked like scoring five hundred as the Blubbs heads got lower and lower.

Just shy of three hundred and Sherman picked up the wicket of Crompton when a mis-hit drive went straight to Whacker but the wickets were now insignificant and Angry was more looking to contain the run-rate to under ten an over.

Thirkell passed two hundred and Leonard passed three hundred and Winton continued to chunter at long on, Sherman lobbed up a pie to the double centurion which he failed to judge, Vassey whipped off the bails and the hosts were three hundred and fourteen for four with six overs to play.

The Leonard five and six continued to pile on the agony for Angry, finally ending the innings on a mammoth three hundred and fifty eight and Angry knew someone needed to get a big score if Blubbs were to get anywhere near the target.

After the interval Bubba and the Hoff strode out to the middle to get the innings under way, Bubba confident after his prematch batting practice against the side of Bungle's head. Ten runs from the first over and Blubbs were off to a flyer.

A maiden second over and Bubba was back on strike fuelled with gamma rays and starting to turn green, another boundary brought up fourteen before an attempted pull saw the end of the hulks innings as a bottom edge knocked over middle stump and Blubbs were one down with plenty to do.

Winton was moved up the order at three with Angry hoping to keep up the run rate, ten runs later and the tanned temper was back in the shed sulking after mis-hitting Murray to mid-on and at twenty four for two Blubbs were in trouble and Winton was off back to Poole with the promise of a Ford Ka.

It wasn't long before wicket number three fell, the Hoff distracted by Bubba in distress, inside edged one onto the sticks and at thirty seven for three, a short afternoon was on the cards and Sherman was working out how many pints he could afford. Gobby and Teflon pushed the runs, taking the attack to the tennis courts before Gobby chipped a leg stump half volley to square leg and Blubbs were four down and still over two hundred and fifty shy of the target.

Mario made his way to the crease for the last time this season before his round world trip to the land of ladyboys and convicts. Twenty two runs later and a Blubbs win went out the window, Mario leaving a straight Thirkell delivery was out bowled for eight, shortly followed by Bungle, repeating the perfectly executed leave five balls later and as the square leg umpire recovered the stumps from the boundary edge Blubbs were tottering on ninety eight for six as a fuming Angry joined Teflon at the crease to try make amends.

Vassey and Angry added seventy needed runs as Blubbs edged towards the batting point but Angry was caught napping as Vassey called through what should have been an easy single but most of Angry's steam had been expelled on the sidelines and falling three yards short of the crease Blubbs had lost wicket number seven. As the changing room crashed and clattered like the cymbals of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Whacker walked out to the middle and Blubbs prepped themselves for some entertainment.

As Whacker began building the stonewall, the crowd sulked but it wasn't long before Whacker picked up a delivery and it disappeared out the village. A repeat attempt fell into the fielders hands and at two hundred and twenty for eight, Blubbs needed twenty runs from twenty deliveries for the batting point. Sherman made his way out as Festa donned the gloves, expecting to be in next ball, however Sherman and Vassey batted through the overs, with Sherman smashing a four in the last over to secure the point and Blubbs closed on two hundred and fourty two for eight, Vassey falling seven short of a well deserved century and Blubbs looking to the next week and hoping to quickly forget this one.

Points: Burton Leonard 5, Blubberhouses 1

Fielding Points: Bungle, Winton

Fact of the day: In cricket, one of the main pieces of equipment is a wooden stick called a bat. It is used to hit the ball to score runs. Unfortunately against Burton Leonard, Plattsey and Bungle forgot this important fact.

Champagne Moment: Not having to watch Bubba umpire at square leg for a second week
