Wet Wicket Spoils Steam Rally TripRain, rain and more rain meant the trip to Masham looked doubtful at nine o'clock on Saturday morning, by twelve Angry got the call from the hosts saying the game was off due to ducks swimming on the sqaure and Sherman looked forward to a day painting the bathroom..........MoreAs the season reached the halfway point Angry found himself venturing across the countryside to take on table toppers Ouseburn for a tough match which Sherman was hoping would be rained off, and Crash Test Dummy wished Angry had never called him into the squad. Winning the toss Angry decided it might be best for Blubbs to field first and give Bubba time to shake off his whiplash, concussion, shock and sore finger after been thrown around Gazzas Gimp-mobile thirty minutes prior to arriving at the ground.
Winton opened up from the bottom end with in-form Whacker racing down the slope from the Field End as play got underway and the hosts got off to a shaky start as the heat heated up Whackers pace. Twenty six on the board and Parker(T) was on his way back to the shed failing to cope with Whackers pace trapped leg before for eleven and as the grumpy Ouseburn captain grumbled to the incoming number three, Whacker was chomping at the bit ready for the next delivery.
Six runs later and Angry had more to celebrate as Whacker bagged number two and three in quick succession, Bryant(J) becoming the second leg before casualty of the day quickly followed by Morrison caught in the slips as Winton finally got in on the action.
Bubba got the call from Angry to take over at the Playground End from Winton when the rabbit hunter decided he need to save a few in case the tail-enders got to the crease asĀ Ouseburn put up some resistance for the forth wicket but Whacker was now rolling and with sixty eight on the board Bryant(S) became his next victim as middle stump cartwheeled down the ground and for once there were no complaints about the dis-missal.
Parker(S) was next at the crease but wasn't hanging around, over went off stump and Whacker had two in two and five in the bag as Ouseburn wobbled like a stack of Jenga bricks in a heavy breeze, sixty eight for five.
Nothing from Bubba and Sherman was next to turn his arm over, and the change brought the wicket as Jones completely missed the worst ball of the day and with six wickets down for seventy nine runs Angry was hoping Blubbs could pick up at least one point from the game.
Sherman nearly had two when Townsend launched a catch to Bungle in cow corner but Bugle was too busy chatting up Vasseys missus and the catch went to ground as Townsend pasted Shermans next delivery for six and Sherman kicked the deck as he trundled off back to fine leg. Next over and Townsend launched Bungle a second bite of the cherry as the Ouseburn number eight tried to clear the ropes again, this time Bungle made no mistake and Ouseburn were one hundred and seven for seven and with fifteen overs still to play Ouseburn were looking to close the shutters and hold off for the point.
Whacker finished off his twelve and Bertie was on at the top end, Ouseburn continued to pick off the singles as the score passed one fifty.
Sherman finished his spell and Elmer was back into the attack hoping to mop up some wickets, three overs to go and Winton finally removed Uffindall leg before and more chuntering was echoing round the ground as the Ouseburn opener left the field knowing he'd done himself proud.
A cameo over from Hoff brought the inning to a close and Blubbs were looking at chasing down one ninety eight if they were to gain anything from the match and could the five free runs prove to be a big advantage for Angry and Blubbs?
After tea and more chuntering Bubba and Hoff got the innings under way and Bubba was on a mission, fuelled with airbag gas and a mouthful of dashboard the Blubbs opener set about the Ouseburn attack and Blubbs were reeling the victory in, twenty nine on the board and disaster for Hoff, knocking up a simple catch and Bungle was making his way to the middle with Gobby sunning himself in Portugal.
More hard hitting from Bubba saw fifty five on the board before Bungle was trapped leg before for four and Bertie was making his way to the crease at four.
Bubba and Bertie continued to smash the bowling attack around the park as the hosts struggled to find line or length, the fifty partnership came up and Blubbs looked to be cruising. Fifty was all the partnership made and Bertie picked up leg before decision number five of the day but with only ninety four needed for victory Blubbs still looked favourites to take the five points.
Eighty seven needed for victory and more woes for Angry, Winton holed out for six, quickly followed by Bubba who missed a straight one from Morrison and you coud hear Angry's bum sqeaking as he walked out to join Vassey in the middle.
Angry and Vassey cautiously picked off the runs as Blubbs moved closer to the target, one short of the one fifty and Angry was walking off the field after gloving one to slip and with fifty still needed and only four wickets in the tent Ouseburn were edging ahead in the stakes.
Whacker was the new man at the crease and still fuelled up from his earlier involvement in the game was determined Blubbs were taking a victory from the days play, a steady defensive start was soon forgotten as Whacker freed up his arms dispatching anything loose out of the park and Blubbs moved in on the victory, as a wide delivery from Uffindall sailed towards Aldwark bridge Ouseburns thoughts of a miraculous turnaround soon vanished along with the ball. One waft too many and Whackers quick innings of thirty three came to an end as the sticks rocked back and with Blubbs needing twelve for victory Sherman was making his way to the crease hoping to finish off the game.
Tense moments for the Blubbs on-lookers as Sherman played and missed at several deliveries to end the thirty seventh over and Vassey was back on strike as the thirty eighth began. A boundary an a single from the over and and it was seven to win from seven. More runs for Vassey and the scores were level as the forty first over began with Sherman on strike, a wide loose delivery and it was game over as the limping tank despatched the ball for four, not even bothering to run and Blubbs had pulled off a memorable victory to end the first half of the season.
