Ouseburn Away 2011Ouseburn Overhaul

Blubberhouses were the visitors at Pannal on another un-typical day for playing cricket and with another damp deck Angry was pleased he'd called right as the coin landed in the mud and the hosts found themselves batting for the first half of the game and Winton was back in the blocks to get the game underway with Whacker taking the second over from the Stuck Screen End.

The hosts got off to a shaky start, almost losing Ellis in the first over as he took a walk down the track but Bungles shy at the stumps narrowly missed the target and there was a sigh of relief from the hut. The runs came slowly for the hosts as they edged their way to double figures, ten overs into the game as the score moved on to thirty and Winton was in disbelief that Pannal still had all ten wickets intact as chance after chance dropped around the ground avoiding Angrys precision field placements.

With sixteen overs gone and still no wickets Angry called upon Shermans services as Winton shoved his cartridges back into his pockets hoping to come back on later and pick up a few rabbits from the days play.

Seventy one on the board and Blubbs finally got the breakthrough, Strover playing across the line to a Sherman pie and the high rising top edge safely came back down into the hands of Bubba on the boundary edge.

Two overs later and Sherman had two as Fish steered a wide delivery straight to Whacker at gully and Pannal were seventy four for two but still in a commanding position with twenty three overs still to play.

With two overs remaining in his spell Whacker decided to change tact and bowl round the wicket, there was a brief halt to the game as Timmy Mallet desperately tried to re-align the sight screen before play continued. Wicketless Whacker finished off another tight twelve over spell as Plattsey wound up to take over from the Screen End hoping to end his barren spell in the wicket department.

Ellis passed fifty in the thirtieth over with barely a murmur from his team, who were all still asleep from the slow start but Pannal started to accelerate the run rate tucking into whatever Sherman and Plattsey sent down and Angry decided it was time for a double change as Gobby and Bertie took centre stage on the field. The runs came thick and fast as Ellis wafted at everything, dispatching the bowling into all fields far and wide.

With one eighty six on the board and looking like posting a big score Pannal finally conceded wicket number three as King mis-hit a pull shot straight to Winton but Angry knew there was still work to be done as Ellis passed a ton and looked like getting another if he continued batting into the second innings.

Two overs of punishment for Gobby and Fudd was brought back into the attack to try slow down the scoring as Pannal passed two hundred with eight overs still to play. Fudd and Bertie kept the hosts quiet for a few overs before the wafting picked up again, with Crowden hiding in square legs pocket after each Winton delivery.

As Bertie got bashed, Bubba was brought on to bowl the last over, unaware Sherman had squashed his helmet under the sight screen, and controversy followed. Winton dropped a simple catch, and in doing so threw the ball to Vassey, but Ellis got his bat in the way, knocking the ball away to fine leg and the Pannal pair ran another two in unsporting fashion.

Bubba took the wicket of Ellis with the last ball of the innings, Winton finally holding on to a catch and Blubbs were looking at a tough two hundred and forty nine to win and Angry was trying to fit the wheels back on the wagon, wondering how long Bubba's bubble would last knowing he was going to need the eyesight of an owl to see through his helmet.

Bubba and Hasselhoff got the innings underway, and it was evident Bubba was not happy. As the ball crashed to the boundary, the Blubbs team looked on as "Bubba Vision" saw every ball as a half volley and the score raced to fifty nine before Bubba's "Mangled Mask" finally got the better of him and the one man band Ellis had got the breakthrough as Gobby made his way out to the wicket, looking to pick up from the previous week.

The score soon became sixty five for two as Gobby edged to first slip and Bertie was in as Blubbs faltered, with the score on seventy nine, the return of John Wayne saw Bertie walking back to the hut, out LBW, with Hawk Eye suggesting the ball was going over the tops of the bails and the wonky sight screen.

Winton and Hasselhoff began taking the attack to the Pannal bowlers, latching onto anything loose and sending it to the boundary. As Hasselhoff reached fifty, Pannal turned to Evil Kenevil, but the extra timber rendered the bowling ineffective as Hasselhoff sent him crashing into the fields.

Shortly after, Winton passed fifty and the partnership reached one twenty before mishit from the Hoff had Blubbs one ninety nine for four with Mario coming to the crease and still twelve overs to go. Mario was next to go, leaving a straight ball and with just thirty two to win from eight, Angry sent in Bungle to keep the runs flowing. A couple boundaries later and Blubbs needed just fourteen to win from the last five overs.

Fish ran into bowl and Winton took a single first ball. A sudden thought of 'panic' and 'me me me' went through Wintons mind, frantically asking Bungle if he was close to a ton, but with a Winton century out of reach, Bungle helped himself to three consecutive boundaries to what Winton thought were the winning runs, with both batsman and the bowler shaking hands, and Blubbs still needing two to win. One ball later and it was all over for real, Bungle crashing a fourth consecutive boundary and Blubbs had five points in the bag with four point one overs to spare.

Points: Pannal 1, Blubberhouses 5

Fielding Points: Gobby (x2)

Fact of the day: "I say old boy, crickets a gentlemans game"........"B******S!"
